Hands are powerful communicators. Hands embrace, support, protect, connect, pray, and reach. In contrast, hands also cause harm. The mixed media artwork in this series, created with paper and acrylic on stretched canvas, highlights the positive role of hands in communicating and connecting. From the most literal interpretation, sign language, to symbolic gestures, hands say a lot. The racially diverse hands used in the works represent the beauty that diversity brings to the world as well as the complexity it brings to communication and connection. Hopefully these paintings promote awareness and opportunities for the positive, productive, multi-cultural interaction so needed in this often-troubled world as well as greater awareness of the grace and power of our own hands.
