For the last two years the Heidi Gallery at jsdd.org has held exhibitions in honor of PRIDE month. I am proud to say I have entered and was selected to be a part of the exhibit both years.
2025 entry (above): Celebrating Pride, Summoning Courage
This deliberately ambiguous piece, a blossom and a target, portrays both the pride of the LGBTQ+ community and the headway that has been made but also the fragility of that progress as recent events in the US demonstrate. The target zeroes in on those most vulnerable. Mixed media on stretched canvas made with hand-printed papers using the colors of the recent versions of the Pride flag.
2026 Entry (below): Still Becoming: After Stonewall 1969–2026 is a mixed media collage that traces key moments in LGBTQ+ history from the Stonewall uprising to the present. Organized as a loose nine-square grid, the work moves through visibility, loss, activism, legal recognition, expansion, and ongoing contestation. Fragments of headlines, symbols, and hand-painted papers reference both personal and collective histories, while thread-like connections and layered surfaces suggest a story that remains unfinished. Using colors drawn from the Progress Pride flag, the piece reflects both progress achieved and the continuing struggle for recognition, safety, and belonging.
